Our Useful Information

Check-in:

Our normal open check in time is between 4pm (16.00) and 6pm (18.00).

We are happy to arrange another time just for you if required. Please let us know when to expect you and we will make the arrangements.

We understand that being near the airport you may have booked us as you will be arriving late. It is very helpful to let us know your flight number if you expect to arrive later than 6pm so we can monitor for delayed flights.

You MUST let us know what time you would like to check in if it is not going to be between 4pm and 6pm as we only guarantee your room until 6pm if we do not hear from you. (even if you have pre-paid)

Check-out:

Our check out time is 10am.

Please let us know if you require a late check out and we will do our best to arrange this for you.

We like to be very relaxed with our check out times and normally anytime up to 11am is fine, but sometimes we have guests looking to check in early so if you can please let us know your check out time at breakfast.

Early Check-out:

If you need to check-out early we can provide an early light breakfast from 6.30am. We also have a selection of breakfast items as well a coffee/tea so you can make your own "breakfast to go" if you wish.

In Room Facilities:

Although each of our rooms are individually decorated they all have the same common facilities.

Each room has:

Tea/Coffee/biscuits/bottled water, Hair dryer, Freeview Tv with DVD player, USB charging points/sockets, FREE wi-fi access, Alarm clock, Nice fluffy bath, hand and face towels, Scottish Fine Soap toiletries, Candles, Bath Robes, Extra pillows/blanket

Each room has a dressing table which can double as a work desk, with a guest information booklet at hand which includes local maps.

Cottage Facilities:

(Currently due to our Covid-19 restrictions our kitchen and laundry area are unavailable to guests)

At Parkhead House we really like you to make yourself at home. We should have everything you need to make the cottage a home from home but if not please just ask.

There is a fully fitted kitchen with a large dining table, so if you wish to make your own meals this should be no problem at all.

We have enough crockery/cutlery to supply an army!

We also have a garden both to the front and rear of the house with outside tables and chairs for use when the weather lovely. In the rear garden overlooking the South Deer Park we have a BBQ shelter complete with gas BBQ and lighting. Great for just sitting and watching the sunset.

Our laundry can be used 24/7 with two washing machines/tumble dryers/irons. We also have our boiler in the laundry room so the "pulley" is a fantastic way to dry your clothes!

Each bedroom has an easy chair in which you can relax.

Taxi/Public Transport:

Due to our location on a country estate we don't recommend staying with us unless you have your own transport.

The nearest town with public transport is South Queensferry which is around 2.5 miles from Parkhead House. There you will find regular busses and trains into Edinburgh City centre.

There is also a very good local taxi supply:

 Dalmeny Cars, 0131 300 0767, West Lothian Private Hire, 01506 434343

Visiting Edinburgh:

We recommend not taking your car into town!

Please use public transport, our advice is to use the "Park and Ride" at Ingilston (Edinburgh Airport) and use the Edinburgh Tram system. For only £4.50 you have all day travel on trams and busses as well as FREE PARKING. www.edinburghtrams.com

Edinburgh is a wonderful city at anytime of the year, but in the summer months it can get VERY busy. You could spend your life finding out all about Edinburgh and still not see everything. If you have only a day or so to visit then we would recommend you do some planning to see these must see places.

Edinburgh Castle: a MUST SEE. It does get very busy so you MUST pre-book, their website www.edinburghcastle.scot

The Royal Mile: a walk down from the castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse is a fantastic experience there are lots of shops and interesting places to visit all along this route. (some of the shops do sell "tat" so just be careful of where you buy your souvenirs, our advice, avoid the shops with lots of stuff and music outside!)

Camera Obscura: right next to the castle, if you have children they will love. www.camera-obscura.co.uk

The Scotch Whisky Experience: at 354 Castlehill, if you have an interest in Scotch Whisky this is a MUST SEE if only for the 3000 whiskies on display! https://www.scotchwhiskyexperience.co.uk

The Real Mary Kings Close: "real" hidden history on the Royal Mile.  https://www.realmarykingsclose.com

The Royal Yacht Britannia: a 20 minute bus ride from the centre but well worth it. Step aboard the Queen's former floating palace. http://www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk

Two money saving tips would be to check out "The Royal Edinburgh Ticket" to save 20% of bus tours and royal attraction entry if you wish to take the Edinburgh bus tour. https://edinburghtour.com/ticket-offers/the-royal-edinburgh-ticket Also we would recommend the Historic Scotland "Go Explore" 3 or 7 day tickets for lots of castles and site throughout Scotland. https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/explorer-passes/

If you have a wee bit longer, why not visit Edinburgh Zoo? where you will find the UK's only Pandas.

Outlander:

We are located just a short walk from Lallybroch (Midhope Castle), Blackness Castle and Hopetoun House. We can help with access to Midhope Castle should you wish to walk there via the south deer park or if you only have a short time to visit and would like to view the house when it is closed.

We can also help with winter access to view the rear west lawn of Hopetoun House.

Paying for your stay:

Depending on where you booked your stay with us you may still have to pay for your room or pay the balance of the cost.

This payment is due on your arrival.

We accept most worldwide cards including American Express at no additional cost. We also accept cash.

As we use PayPal as our card processor we do not hold any of the information/card details you may have supplied during your booking process and so you will need a physical card to make any payment to us.

We no longer accept cheques as payment.

Places to Eat:

The local town of South Queensferry only a 5 minute drive from the cottage, provides a great selection of places to eat.

We like:

The Bamboo (Chinese Restaurant) +441313192888,  http://bamboo-queensferry.co.uk/

The Queens Spice (Indian Food) +441313314300,  http://www.queensspice.co.uk/

The Hawes Inn (great pub under the rail bridge) +441313311990,  https://www.vintageinn.co.uk/restaurants/scotland-northern-ireland/thehawesinnsouthqueensferry

The boathouse (Fantastic for fish) +441313315429,  http://www.theboathouse.online

There are also the usual suspects such as McDonalds/Burger King/Harry Ramsdens

Parking/Bike Storage:

There is unlimited FREE on street parking right outside Parkhead House.

It is best to park your car on the same side of the road as the cottage and you can park in front of the large gate if you prefer "off street" parking.

We have a large shed in which to store pedal cycles across the lane from the front door of the cottage.

This provides dry secure overnight storage. We also have bike racks at the front gate.
